What We Love

  • A tall 14-inch all-foam build gives the gel memory foam comfort layer real depth, so shoulder and hip pressure relief holds up for most body types
  • Excellent motion isolation, among the quietest mattresses we tested for light sleepers sharing a bed
  • Gel-infused foam runs cooler than plain memory foam, which narrows (but does not close) the heat gap with hybrids
  • CertiPUR-US certified foam, with mild off-gassing that cleared within a few days in our testing
  • A true medium feel that suits side, back and combination sleepers without a long adjustment period

Room for Improvement

  • At $989–$999 it costs well above comparable gel foam mattresses such as the Nectar Classic and MLILY EgoHome, so value is its weakest score
  • All-foam construction still sleeps warmer than a hybrid, even with gel infusion
  • Edge support is only average, and the perimeter compresses visibly when you sit on it
  • Heavier sleepers over about 230 lbs may find the comfort layer compresses more than ideal over time

Memory foam shoppers face an odd problem: dozens of mattresses promise the same deep, quiet pressure relief, and most spec sheets read almost identically. The Novaform Advanced 14" Gel Memory Mattress tries to stand out the old-fashioned way, with thickness and layered foam rather than a gimmick, packing 14 inches of gel-infused memory foam into a single all-foam build.

Priced at $989 to $999, it sits in a crowded part of the market, above popular gel foam options and below luxury hybrids. That makes the question for this review simple: does the extra foam depth and the Novaform name justify the premium, or can you get the same sleep for hundreds of dollars less?

We tested it over eight weeks, focused on pressure relief, motion isolation, cooling, edge support and how it compares with the foam mattresses we already recommend. Here is what we found.

Bottom line: The Novaform Advanced is a comfortable, quiet and genuinely well-built gel foam mattress, with excellent pressure relief and motion isolation. Its weakness is price: at nearly $1,000 you can get comparable foam comfort for much less. Best for side sleepers and light sleepers who specifically want a thick, all-foam build and are comfortable paying for it.

Who Is the Novaform Advanced Built For?

Buy the Novaform Advanced if you are:

  • A side sleeper who wants deep shoulder and hip cushioning from a thick comfort layer
  • A light sleeper sharing a bed with a restless partner, since motion isolation is a clear strength
  • A buyer who prefers all-foam construction: quiet, no coil feel and no bounce
  • Someone who finds gel foam mattresses too thin and wants a 14-inch profile
  • A shopper who values a medium feel that works across positions without much adjustment

Consider an alternative if you are:

  • A hot sleeper, since a hybrid or open-grid mattress will run meaningfully cooler than any all-foam design
  • A value-focused buyer, because the Nectar Classic and MLILY EgoHome deliver similar foam comfort for far less
  • Someone who sits on the bed edge often, since foam perimeters compress more than coil edges
  • A heavier sleeper over 230 lbs who needs reinforced support, in which case see our best mattress for heavy people guide

What Is Inside the Novaform Advanced?

The Novaform Advanced is built to 14 inches entirely from foam, arranged in several layers that move from soft at the top to firm at the base. There are no coils, which is the defining trait of the design and the reason it behaves so differently from a hybrid.

Construction

Layer 1 — Quilted Cover and Gel Memory Foam

The top of the mattress combines a soft quilted cover with a gel-infused memory foam comfort layer. Gel beads or gel swirls distributed through the foam improve its thermal conductivity, which helps it shed some body heat instead of absorbing all of it. This layer is also where the slow, cradling contour comes from, and it is thick enough to let the shoulder and hip sink in before the firmer layers take over.

How Gel Infusion Compares to Other Cooling Tech

Gel infusion is the most common cooling approach in memory foam, and also the most modest. It improves on plain foam, but it does not give heat anywhere to escape, which is why it cannot match a coil system's airflow or an open-grid comfort layer. Think of it as narrowing the temperature gap with hybrids rather than closing it, an effect we describe in more detail in our hybrid vs memory foam guide.

Layer 2 — Transition Foam

A transition layer sits between the soft comfort foam and the firm base, smoothing the progression so you don't feel a sudden hard surface underneath. In an all-foam mattress this layer matters a great deal for how quickly the surface recovers when you change position.

Layer 3 — High-Density Support Base

The thick base layer does the structural work, holding the spine in line and preventing the mattress from sagging. At 14 inches total, this mattress has more base depth than most all-foam designs, which is part of why it feels substantial rather than flimsy.

How We Tested the Novaform Advanced

Testing Setup

Our Novaform Advanced testing ran eight full weeks across four testers with different body types and sleep positions:

  • Dr. Sarah Mitchell (primary reviewer, side sleeping at 150 lbs) — pressure relief and overall comfort
  • James Whitfield (back sleeping at 200 lbs) — spinal support and sag resistance
  • Marcus Chen (combination sleeping at 175 lbs) — repositioning ease and edge support
  • Priya Nair (couple test with a lighter partner) — motion isolation

Testing covered seven categories: pressure relief by sleep position, spinal alignment, motion isolation, temperature regulation through contact thermometry, edge support, off-gassing and value against comparable mattresses.

Firmness and Feel

Pressure Map

The Novaform Advanced feels like a true medium, around 5.5 out of 10. First contact is soft and cushioned, then the foam slowly closes around the body, with the shoulder and hip sinking in while the torso stays supported. It is the classic memory foam feel, deeper than a hybrid and less extreme than the softest foam mattresses.

How it performs by sleep position:

Sleep PositionPerformanceNotes
Side sleepingExcellentDeep shoulder and hip cushioning; lowest pressure readings of any position
Back sleepingVery GoodLumbar stays supported at average weights, with slight hip sink on heavier frames
Stomach sleepingFairSofter surface lets hips sink, so a firmer mattress suits strict stomach sleepers better
Combination sleepingGoodSlow foam recovery makes repositioning a little effortful compared with a hybrid

Pressure Relief

Pressure relief is the Novaform Advanced's strongest category. In pressure mapping for side sleepers, the shoulder and hip showed broad, even distribution rather than concentrated red zones, which is what a deep, slow-conforming comfort layer is designed to deliver. The 14-inch profile gives the foam enough room to work before the firmer layers take over, so even heavier side sleepers rarely felt the base.

The thickness of the comfort and transition layers is what separates it from thinner gel foam mattresses, where the same soft feel can bottom out within minutes. If pressure relief at the hip or shoulder is your main concern, it is also worth reading our best mattress for hip pain and best mattress for shoulder pain guides.

Temperature Regulation

Memory foam's weakness is heat, and gel infusion only partly fixes it. In our contact thermometry the Novaform Advanced surface ran cooler than plain memory foam, but warmer than every hybrid we've tested at a comparable price. That is exactly what to expect from an all-foam design.

For most sleepers who run average or mildly warm, it is comfortable, especially in a cool bedroom. If you regularly wake up overheated, a hybrid is a better choice. A few ways to get the most out of it:

  • Use breathable sheets. Cotton, bamboo or Tencel let heat escape; polyester traps it.
  • Skip thick toppers. Extra foam on top cancels the benefit of the gel layer.
  • Keep the room cool. Around 65–68°F is ideal for sleeping on foam.

Motion Isolation and Edge Support

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation is the Novaform Advanced's other standout. Dense memory foam absorbs movement where it starts instead of passing it across the bed, and in our ball-drop test vibration at the far side was barely perceptible. For couples where one partner moves a lot or gets up early, this is a genuine advantage over any coil-based mattress.

Edge support is the weak spot. Foam compresses more at the perimeter than a reinforced coil edge, so sitting on the side of the bed produces visible sink, and the usable sleep surface narrows slightly near the border. It is perfectly adequate for sleeping in the center, but if you sit on the edge to dress or sleep near the side, a hybrid will feel more stable.

Off-Gassing and Setup

Off-gassing was mild and consistent with CertiPUR-US certified foam. There was a typical new-foam smell at unboxing, which dropped substantially within 24 hours and was undetectable after roughly 48–72 hours in a ventilated room.

Setup recommendation: unbox in the room where it will be used and allow 2–3 hours for full expansion. A 14-inch all-foam mattress is heavy, so a second person helps with placement. Use a solid or slatted platform with slats no more than 3 inches apart, and confirm the trial and warranty terms at purchase, since they can vary by seller.

When to choose the Novaform Advanced over alternatives: if you specifically want a 14-inch all-foam build with deep contouring and are happy to pay a premium for it. For most buyers, the Nectar Classic is the better value, with a much longer trial and a lifetime warranty at a lower price, and the MLILY EgoHome offers the same 14-inch height for roughly half the cost. Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Novaform Advanced 14" Gel Memory Foam Mattress worth $989–$999?

It is a very comfortable mattress, but the price is hard to justify against the competition. You get excellent pressure relief and motion isolation, yet the Nectar Classic and MLILY EgoHome deliver similar comfort for $300–$500 less. It makes sense mainly if you specifically prefer this build or find a better price on the exact size you need.

Does the Novaform Advanced sleep hot?

It sleeps cooler than plain memory foam thanks to the gel infusion, but warmer than any hybrid. Most average sleepers will be comfortable, especially in a cool room. Hot sleepers who regularly overheat should look at a hybrid or grid-based mattress instead.

Is the Novaform Advanced good for side sleepers?

Yes, side sleeping is where it shines. The thick gel memory foam layer lets the shoulder and hip sink in, spreading pressure across a wide area. Lighter and average-weight side sleepers get the deepest relief.

How firm is the Novaform Advanced?

It rates around 5.5 out of 10, a true medium. That works for most side, back and combination sleepers. Strict stomach sleepers usually prefer something firmer.

Is it good for couples?

Yes, especially where one partner is a light sleeper or moves often, because motion isolation is excellent. Edge support is average, so couples who use the full width of the bed up to the perimeter may notice some compression.

How does it compare to the Nectar Classic?

They feel similar, with deep contouring and excellent motion isolation. The Novaform Advanced is slightly taller at 14 inches, but the Nectar Classic costs far less and comes with a 365-night trial and lifetime warranty, which makes it the safer buy for most people.
